The Tradition Of Sunset Watching

Since Tamarindo is one of the top ten places in the WORLD to watch the sunset, everybody does it!  We definitely join in.
At about five or five-fifteen in the afternoon everyone grabs their rum and coke or cerveza and heads for the beach.   Even though, with the high winds we have been having, the sunsets have not been that great, everyone still heads for the beach at sunset time.  Yesterday was no exception--
We headed down to the beach as well.  On our way there we noticed a group of people gathered around this tree.

The tree had about fifteen Howler monkeys in it.
Howler monkeys are our alarm clock.  They make an extremely loud, deep, guttural, growl, or howl that can be heard up to three miles away.  They eat the leaves and berries in the trees, and sometimes will raid a bird's nest for the eggs.  They rarely leave the trees except at night to get water although they have been know to raid a farmers chickens for eggs.  The people here have built rope bridges across the streets so the Howler's can cross from one side to the other.  They get to be about three feet tall with tails that are at least that long as well.

After watching the monkeys for a while we went on down to the beach.  The sunset was not he best ever but it was still beautiful.  It's amazing how the colors change as the sun descends behind the horizon.

Our rum and coke was gone and we headed home for some Mahi Mahi.
